FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here we would like to share with you some useful information if you plan to stay in the Galapagos Islands and some answers to frequently asked questions from visitors.
What information do we need from you?
Important
We would like to ask our guests to let us know with which flight (or boat) they will be arriving, as to calculate the time to pick them up in Puerto Ayora. Thank you!
What about protecting from the sun while taking care of the planet?
Sun-Tan-Lotion / Sunscreen
Some of the sun-tan-lotion or sunscreen brands that are on the market contain substances that can be toxic for aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, we would like to advise our guests to take a closer look at the ingredients when buying one of these products.
Some brands also leave yellow and orange stains on the towels and sheets. These can only be removed using strong cleaning products, which we prefer to avoid if possible. There are a few criteria that a good sunscreen should meet:
Shoes
If you are planning to explore the Islands, it would be a good idea to take along two pairs of shoes. One pair should be suited for hiking (not too heavy), the other one for trips to the beach or town (flip-flops should suffice).
Who to trust?
Information from third parties
It has come to our attention that some of our previous guests have been misinformed about our Guesthouse by third parties when arriving at Santa Cruz Island. Some have apparently been told, that the owner wasn’t on the Island and that they wouldn’t be picked up at the main dock.
Please – IGNORE THESE MISINFORMATIONS. Jean’s Home guarantees all our guests that have made a reservation, that they will be picked up at the main dock in time, even if they arrive late.
Thank you for taking this into account!
What kind of clothing should I bring to the Galapagos Islands?
Clothing
When travelling to Galapagos it is important to consider the season of the year, as to decide what clothing you will be taking along. The months between June and October usually belong to the cool season. During this time of the year the temperatures are somehow lower (although it doesn’t get very cold) and it often tends to rain or drizzle. Therefore, you might consider taking along a waterproof jacket and a pair of long jeans or trousers.
The rest of the year, especially during the months between February and April it is usually very hot (up to 39ºC) and humid. Cotton T-shirts and shorts are perfect for the subtropical climate during this season. We also highly recommend taking along a hat and sunglasses.
What kind of electric outlet am I going to find?
Electricity
If you need to take along any electric devices, such as hairdryers or computers don’t forget to check the voltage. On the Galapagos Islands and generally in all of Ecuador the electric outlets provide 110V.
